Downsizing DVD Storage

Over the years I have developed quite the DVD collection. I haven't had cable for years and in the past felt that justified me in purchasing the occasional previously viewed DVD from the bargain bin. I am also one of those people who likes to watch the same thing over and over again. Why? Probably because it is comforting. Whenever I am sick I watch Sleepless in Seattle and I have watched my Sex and the City series dozens of times in its entirety.

But DVD's can take up quite a bit of space. I had filled about 6 boxes from Ikea with them! Now sure, the true "minimalist" thing to do would be to toss these out or donate them. You could say I'm just not that die hard. So I came up with another solutions I wish I had thought of years ago.

The answer was CD binders! I purchased 4 from IKEA that each held over 100 CDs--or in my case, DVDs. I paid about $4 for each of these and they now sit nicely on a self under our TV. It is much easier to flip through these books to look for a DVD to watch instead of multiple boxes and the amount of space I created for other storage is amazing. IKEA no longer stocks these online, but they may in-store. Here are some other CD Binder options for your inspiration.
