Safe Cosmetics and Humphreys Daily Moisturizer

It is shocking the amount of toxic chemicals that are hidden in products we use every day. Your body lotion, toothpaste and bathroom cleaners all contain ingredients that have been shown to be harmful. Yes, even those products that claim to be "organic" or "natural". Your skin is a giant a sponge and everything you put on it is absorbed into your body. Chances are if you don't know what an ingredient is one of these products contains it isn't good for you.

So, how do you know what is safe? I have been relying on the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetic Safety Database for a few years now. The have the ingredients of 1000's of products listed on the site, as well as research associated with each. There is even a rating system to let you know how harmful a beauty product may be for you. I tend to use this site more of a guideline as research is not definitive for many ingredients.

I have decided as I use up a product I currently own I will replace with with a product that receives a good rating on the database. Let me tell you how hard this is to do on a budget. Most products that are entirely natural are VERY expensive.  When I find something affordable that I have tried and enjoyed I will post about it.

Today I want to review Humphreys Oil Controlling Daily Moisturizer. I picked it up for only $9.99 at our local health food store Sprouts. Although this product has not been reviewed by the Cosmetic Database I looked up each of the ingredients individually and was very happy overall. This is a great daily moisturizer and it doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy. I think this must be because the product contains witch hazel a well as starch which help control oil. Other natural ingredients include: jasmine, arnica (a natural pain reliever), chamomile, lavender, aloe, cucumber, vitamin E and vitamin B6. It smells great too. For the price I don't think you could find a much better product.
